New Year Edition 2013 104 E Pleasant Pierre Artistic Director, Sunny Holloway Vol 1

Happy New Year:

We finished 2012 strong with some victories and some firsts. God blessed us with a new studio and a repeat of our Lion’s Roar performance.  It was the first time ever to do a performance as a fundraiser for Riggs Fine Arts Club and to work with the Riggs staff to put a show on stage.  A new projector was a plus.
The new experience stretched everyone, especially Ms.Sunny.  It is important for a dancer to stay flexible even in relationships.  I found myself constantly thanking God for what He was doing even as I laid aside some artistic goals for the show.
The dancers came through with a shining performance of their dance steps, even the new dances that were learned in the last 3 weeks before the show.  Kudos to Josh Easter for learning and performing a new solo for Aslan and to Sarah for helping him with it!
Now we put this show behind us and move on to the next one with 4 months to learn dances and the month of May for run through practices.

We will begin the year with a few students moving up a level as promised at registration.  Dancers being promoted are Cassandra Ryckman, Kaitlyn Bruns, and Dadra Scott.
Cassandra and Kaitlyn will also be starting beginning pointe.  They will be traveling to Sioux Falls for a pointe shoe fitting with Ms.Sunny and a group of advanced dancers who will be attending a performance of Sleeping Beauty performed by Dance Gallery on January 18 at Orpheum Theater.
Emily Plumage, Josh Easter, Sarah Easter and Ms. Sunny performed Your Great Name and In Christ Alone for St. John’s Catholic Church in Ft. Pierre December 27th.  Emily Plumage also danced for Christmas Eve Mass at St. John’s.
Hosanna Dance hosted a DVD showing party of The Lion’s Roar for the cast and friends at Cup of Hope coffee shop in Ft. Pierre December 29th.

Revised Winter Edition 2012 104 E Pleasant Pierre Artistic Director, Sunny Holloway Vol 3

Rejoice,

We are six weeks into fall classes and have another workshop under our belts.  Emily Plumage, Josh and Sarah Easter and Ms. Sunny traveled to Aberdeen on the beautiful weekend of September 28 & 29th to attend one of the best ever Dance Network of South Dakota (DNSD) Conferences at the wonderful new Aberdeen Recreation and Cultural Center (ARCC) with spacious studios and fantastic guest teachers.

We were so inspired by the opportunity to tap dance again that Ms. Sunny went to Menards and bought some floor covering to use at the studio.  Our ballet, modern, and jazz teachers were excellent also and equally inspiring.

You can see some of the wonderful dancing of our teachers out on the Hosanna Dance YouTube channel in the playlist 2012 Dance Network Teachers.

This was a first opportunity for some of our dancers to take Broadway Dance from Jeff Shade and they thoroughly enjoyed the fun choreography.

Hosanna Dance was invited to participate in a dance showcase fundraiser November 23 and 24 for the Riggs High school Band along with Pierre Street Dance and Sarah’s Dance Studio.  However, the showcase was cancelled because not all of the studios were able to be ready for a November performance.
Hosanna Dance has agreed to let Riggs High School Band use our performance of Lion's Roar on December 14 and 15 as the band fundraiser. We will most likely be doing our 3rd run through Monday night, December 10, at Riggs Theater instead of the studio. This will be our dress rehearsal.
We apologize for all the changes in our plans this fall but are really thankful and praise God for this opportunity to work with the faculty at Riggs. To God be all the glory.

Costumes have been ordered for the November/ December performances.  If you did not pay the extra fee for these, I will subtract the cost from the recital fee paid at registration and there will be extra costume charges in January for the May show.

Hosanna,

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, and blessed are we indeed to be in our wonderful new space. The floor is beautiful and it is good to be dancing in front of mirrors again. And all the dancers say "amen."

We actually began renting 104 E. Pleasant on a temporary basis in May and June and signed a 1 year lease in July. We had the pleasure of having our first dance classes there (modern) with Ms. Jenna Goehring.

The advanced dancers also worked on choreography over the summer, learning a dance piece to Israel Houghton's Hosanna. While in Kansas City, we had the pleasure of learning Ms. Liz Dimmel's dance piece from her Esther to Lord Have Mercy.

Sarah Easter, Josh Easter, and Abbey Nold traveled to Kansas City, MO with Ms. Sunny in early July to attend the summer intensive at Dramatic Truth School of the Arts. We had a great week of dance training and evening workshop.

Emily Plumage attended the Ballet Magnificat summer intensive in Jackson, MS where she danced in two student performances and learned four dance pieces. She also attended the International Ballet Competition while there.

Emily Plumage, Abbey Nold, Jenna McRae, Josh Easter, Sarah Easter, Jenna Goehring and Ms. Sunny performed three dance pieces for an outdoor workshop concert at Griffin Park July 28. Dances performed were Hosanna, Shekinah, and a solo by Ms. Jenna to In Christ Alone.

Emily Plumage, Jenna McRae, Josh Easter, Sarah Easter and Ms. Sunny performed two dance pieces for the Awaken Prayer and Worship at River Center Church on August 18. Dances performed were Lord Have Mercy and Shekinah.

Ms. Sunny and some advanced students are planning to attend Dance Network in Aberdeen September 28-30. They will take ballet classes from Robert Underwood, formerly of American Ballet Theatre, and Heidi Erickson, formerly of Joffrey Ballet. Jazz and modern classes will be taught by Shizu Yasuda, trained at Peridance School in New York. They also will see Tap Kids, a New York originals stage show.

Think Spring,

Wow! It's hard to believe that spring and our April show are just around the corner. Costumes have begun to arrive without any problem due to address change. Praise the Lord!

Costumes will be given out at class time in April as soon as they are here. A couple of orders may not arrive until the 2nd week of April.

PLEASE NOTE: Run Through Rehearsals have been moved from Monday nights to the first two Friday nights in April in the multi-purpose room from 5:30-8 p.m. Pre Ballet does not need to come until 6 p.m. All other dancers will need to be there for warm-up at 5:30 p.m.

The reason for the change of plans is that the YMCA has scheduled a class after our 5:30 p.mm. class on Mondays and Friday night was the only night where we had a two hour time slot reserved for classes. Thank you for your understanding.

We continue to progress with choreography. There are still some special dance numbers to teach, a finale dance, a second jazz dance, a trio, a couple of duets and battle dance. AND WE PRESS ON TOWARD THE MARK.

It is our plan to do this show again in December on the weekend of the 15th. And yes, we have reserved the dates already. We have other dance numbers we would like to add to the show.

Sarah and Josh Easter and I have been to the studio storage unit to do a search for props and costume accessories for this show and God is just so amazing. You would have to see the small space, crammed to the top, to understand but i was able to put my hands on everything we needed.

Josh and Sarah Easter, Abbey Nold, Emily Plumage and Ms. Sunny danced In Christ Alone and Shekinah for St. John's Catholic Church the last week of December.

Several of us are looking at the summer intensives in Kansas City, MO, and Jackson, MS.
