Thanks & Blessings To You All!
We have been working hard to prepare a collection of Christmas dances for a December in-house performance for parents as well as preparing for Cecchetti examinations on October 26. Ms, Sunny, Josh, and Sarah attended the Fall Northern Plains Cecchetti workshop over the weekend of October 26 and 27 with two students, Becca Brusven and Jessica Saunders. We learned a lot but still found time to play and shop and take lots of photos. Josh and Sarah had three students with them at the Dance Network of South Dakota Convention in Rapid City the weekend of October 19th for wonderful classes from the Manhattan Dance Project. Students attending this workshop were Becca Brusven, Jessica Saunders, and Rae McVey. Josh and Sarah were named to the board of Dance Network of South Dakota at the annual meeting in Rapid City. Other good news for Hosanna Dance is that Ms. Sunny is in remission and has been taken off immunotherapy treatments. She is getting her strength back as the side effects gradually go away. She thanks her Lord and God who is her strength and the lifter of her head.

We will have been in our new studio space for one year by the end of November. It has been a year that has brought a lot of challenges -- hard work on studio renovations for two summers, Ms. Sunny's battle with cancer, our first in-house performance, and a commitment to take workship dance back out into the community.

We taught line dance at the summer farmers' market in Fort Pierre and presented worship dances at the Awaken the Dawn SD 50 hour prayer and tent worship in Steamboat Park in September. We had 10 dancers who performed God of All my Days and Your Great Name November 2nd for a Concert at Drifters Event Center.

For the first time in several years, Hosanna Dance is offering a Pas De Deux class on Monday nights from 8:15-9:15pm. This class is for Intermediate Pointe only and guys who are interested in partnering. We still need more guys, teenage or adult. There is no charge for them. All soloists cast in Cinderella are required to take this class. Also on Monday nights, a beginning modern class for ages 9-12 from 5:30-6:30.
We Encourage All Our Students to Prepare for Cecchetti Examinations This is such an excellent way for students to become technically proficient and thoroughly learn the terminology of ballet. There is something about preparing for an exam that makes students work harder and helps them as dancers. And bonus, you get a certificate as a memory of all the hard work, study, and effort.
If you or your student are interested in getting started with Cecchetti student examinations let us know. Ballet III and up are eligible to start working on Grade 1. Examinations take a lot of preparation, study, and commitment. (Normally 1-2 years is spent studying per grade. More as you progress through the grades.) Our studio is affiliated with the Cecchetti Council of America. All teachers  are professional examined by the CCA to hold certificates in the Cecchetti Method grades.
A Cecchetti Grade IV class is being taught on Thursday nights from 5:30-7:00 pm. A Cecchetti Grade III class is being taught on Mondays from 6:30-8:00pm. Even if you are not interested in doing exams, attending these classes is an excellent way for ballet IV/V to get another ballet class in and work hard on perfecting technique and getting more one on one corrections. Ms Sunny, Josh, and Sarah attend all the Cecchetti intensives at Dance Gallery in Sioux Falls. Dates to remember (also see the calendar for dates and times)
Attendance is extremely important. Make sure you add all classes and all dates to your calendar.

Fall Edition 2018 119 N Deadwood St Ft Pierre Artistic Director, Sunny Hannum Vol 1

Let's Celebrate the 2018 Dance Year!
Yes, that's right. You've heard of fiscal years and calendar years but we dance studios celebrate dance years.

We will have been at our new studio location nine months when classes start up in September and have seen a lot of progress in those nine months and some "firsts."
We had our first ever in-house performance Friday and Saturday, May 19 and 20. We had our first ever worship dance performance titled, "Rejoice Always!" on those dates. We held our first musical theater and Cecchetti dance camps this summer in June and July. Kids attending enjoyed the themes and activities and mini performances. We had our first ever audition on August 18 for our upcoming production of Cinderella to be held late winter 2019.
Sandwiched in between summer classes, Ms. Sunny, Ms. Sarah, and Mr. Josh attended two weeklong Cecchetti Intensives, one in June in Sioux Falls, and the other one in July in Holland, MI, where students and teacher's come from all over the world to study.

Becca Brusven attended the June summer intensive in Sioux Falls with her teachers. Besides Cecchetti ballet classes there were classes in contemporary, modern, conditioning, and dancer's health.

Hosanna Dance gave line dancing instruction at a Fort Pierre's Farmer's Market in July and in August during the Tuesday Farmer's Market nights, we hosted tours of the dance studio and took class registrations.
Also in August, Hosanna Dance began a painting project of the walls of the public spaces at the studio. Painting had been put on hold last year with the move at the end of November. You will see freshly painted walls in the lounge, reception,, bathroom, coat room, and boys dressing room by the time classes begin.
New mirrors were added to the small studio walls in August and we have two new portable barres that were acquired in July.

Ms. Sunny is working hard on completing her Teacher's Intermediate Grade VI Cecchetti exam in October. She will then be certified to train teachers in the Cecchetti Method. We encourage all our students to prepare for Cecchetti exams! This is such an excellent way for students to become technically proficient and learn the terminology of ballet and perfect their technique. There is something about preparing for an exam that makes students work harder and helps them progress as dancers.

Ms. Sunny, Mr. Josh, and Ms. Sarah will be attending the Cecchetti Northern Plains Liasion Workshop, October 26-28, at Dance Gallery in Sioux Falls. You do not have to be working towards exams to attend. This workshop is only open to those in Ballet III, IV, and V. If you are working on preparing for an exam (or thinking about starting) you are strongly encouraged to attend this workshop. Parents are invited to register their students for this weekend workshop by going to www.dancegallerysd.com/workshops-intensives once online registration is live. We usually get a couple of rooms at Home2 Suites and split the cost. Tuition for the workshop is very reasonable.
The 2018 Dance Network of SD convention will be the weekend of October 19-21 in Rapid City. Instructors will be from the Manhattan Dance Project.

A Cecchetti Grade IV class is being offered on Thursday nights from 5:30-7:00 pm. A Cecchetti Grade I or Grade III class will be taught on Mondays from 6:30-8:00 depending on registration. Also on Monday nights, a beginning modern class for ages 9-12 from 5:30-6:30 will be taught and a Pas de Deux class from 8:15-9:15. You must be in intermediate pointe to take pas de deux.

The 2018/2019 class year starts the day after Labor Day and runs through the end of May, finishing off with a final showcase the first weekend of June. Our big storybook production this year will be Cinderella and will be late winter/early spring in March.

Check out the class schedule online. We are the ballet focused studio for the area. However, there are opportunities for our dancers to learn other styles of dance like tap and modern/contemporary.

Cinderella Auditions

Dancers have to be registered for the 2018/2019 season AND at least have their first month of classes paid for before they can audition for Cinderella.

All children and youth ballet classes will have dances in Cinderella. There is no audition for group dances. Auditions are for the serious older dancers for main roles.

Auditions for our older dancers wanting to try out for leads in Cinderella
             August 18 from 2-4 pm
Please attend ballet classes so that you can find your ballet muscles and work on your technique

We will have Ballet classes on Saturdays leading up to the Cinderella auditions so dancers can get back in dancing shape and perform at their best.
           July 28th, and August 4th,11th, and 18th from 10:00am - Noon.

A Happy Belated New Year!
Here we are already a month into the New Year and we haven’t brought you up to date on our spring plans. We are doing our spring performances in the studio on our in-house stage. This is another exciting new experience for us and one of the reasons we relocated to the new space.

As some of you know, we have struggled every spring finding a date early enough for our missions bound students and when Riggs Theater is available - a near impossibility. This fact definitely affected our casting for Esther last spring.

We have some work to do on the stage area to prepare the surface and need to add some lighting but will gear our performance to be simpler than the lavish one we do for our dance theater performances at Riggs Theater.

We plan to do a performance entirely of worship dances. This performance has been on our bucket list for a while and should fit perfectly on our studio stage. The bonus will be having worship dances available for any church or concert that want us over the summer.

We have not yet picked our next winter show but it will once again be a dance theater performance at Riggs Theater. We are currently researching possibilities including Cinderella. We were very pleased with the response to our “Greatest Gift of All” performances in January. They were very well received with bigger audiences than in the past in spite of a cold weekend.

Todd Thompson graced us with his beautiful photography during dress rehearsal and we will be preparing a display of his photos soon. Our faithful videographer came out of retirement to give us very good video of the matinee performance. A showing was held for Ballet IV and V on January 20th at the Hilmoe’s home and refreshments were served.

We offer Cecchetti syllabus classes for those interested in progressing as a dancer and who take more than one ballet class a week. We have a Grade IV class going and would like to have a Grade I class for those that would like to get started with Cecchetti examinations or would like to work on perfecting their technique. So please sign up! Ask Gracie Zeeb and Becca Brusven about how Cecchetti has helped them become better dancers!

We encourage all our students to try Cecchetti examinations!
This is such an excellent way for students to become technically proficient and learn the theory and terminology of ballet. There is something about preparing for an exam that makes students work harder and helps them progress as dancers.

Ms Sunny, Josh, and Sarah will be attending the Cecchetti Intensive June 17-21 at Dance Gallery in Sioux Falls. Parents, we will let you know when registration opens. When information and brochure are available they can be found by going online to www.dancegallerysd.com/workshops.
We usually rent a couple rooms at Home 2 Suites and split the cost. Tuition to the workshop is very reasonable.

We have added a few new classes since the show. A Cecchetti Grade IV class is being offered Monday nights at 5:30 pm. On Tuesday night is a Variations class at 5:30pm. Adult Ballet is being offered Thursday night at 7pm and Adult/Youth Line Dance at 7pm Friday night. On Saturday at 10 am a Strength & Conditioning class. In order to attend the Friday or Saturday classes please contact us in advance to register.
