Two down and one to go, workshops that is. We enjoyed a wonderful weekend of dance with Ballet Magnificat in Sioux Falls October 10, 11 & 12 and the following weekend, five Hosanna dancers and Ms. Sunny all passed their Cecchetti exams with a “pass commend.” We will be traveling to Mitchell the weekend of October 24 & 25th for the Dance Network of South Dakota classes.
Most of the dances for the December performance of Greatest Gift of All are needing completion and need a lot of practice. Because of that we are not starting run through rehearsals until Monday, November 17th, from 6 to 8 p.m. This will still give us 3 run through practices and the dress rehearsal to pull the show together.
Remember all your costumes need to be paid for and class fees paid up to date, before you can take costumes home. Costumes will be handed out at regular class times as soon as they all have arrived. The requested arrival date is November 21st so costumes will be given out that week.
We will begin working on our June performance of Prince of Egypt (The Deliverer) in January. The first week of January we will take registrations for the second half year. This would be a good time for children to sign up who missed the fall signup. No registrations will be taken after January 30 until July 1st.
We will once again be offering summer Cecchetti classes in June for students planning to take exams during the week of the Cecchetti Summer Intensive June 22 -27th.
Ms. Sunny is planning to attend the teacher’s seminar at the Cecchetti International Summer School July 5 -11 in Holland. Michigan, and the Ballet Magnificat Teachers Workshop July 11-18 in Jackson, Mississippi.
The Easters may be offering some summer dance classes both modern and ballet for dancers wishing to stay in dance shape over the summer. That schedule has not yet been set.
We are also hoping to offer some summer dance camps for preschool and kindergarten children. These would be two week sessions of one hour a week.

We basked in the afterglow all summer of our successful He Lives In You (Lion King)
Rehearsals began for The Greatest Gift of All (Nutcracker) the first Tuesday of August for advanced dancers, a class of 12 female and 2 male dancers. Hosanna Dance last performed Gift in December 2010. We will be adding new dances and changing some this year.
New dancers are signed up in all levels and some dancers have moved up to the next level. All levels will once again be studying the Cecchetti method as part of their training. Several advanced dancers will be examining in different Cecchetti grades in October and Ms. Sunny will be examining in Teacher’s Grade 4.
Twenty dancers participated in summer dance taught by Sarah and Josh Easter. Classes included Cecchetti, ballet technique, Horton modern, pointe barre, foot and ankle exercises, and stretch classes. Kudos, Josh and Sarah! We look forward to more teaching from you.
Kat Bruns, Emily Plumage, Josh and Sarah Easter, Israel Kanz and Ms. Sunny attended the Cecchetti Summer Ballet Intensive June 24th - 27th in Sioux Falls at Dance Gallery. Excellent classes were taught in all levels of the Cecchetti method, jazz, modern, hip hop, lyrical, and ballroom. Teachers were from Chicago and North Carolina.
Emily Plumage attended Ballet Magnificat summer intensive where she landed a solo in their student gala performance and also auditioned for the Belhaven College dance program. Go, Emily!!!

Think Spring! Think
Summer!
It has been an unusual dance year so far for absences due to
illness and injuries occurring in other activities apart from dance making it
difficult to complete the list of 20 dances. The dance pieces have been
challenging because almost all of them have 3 or 4 dances and groups within
each dance. I am blessed for this show to have Josh and Sarah Easter and Emily
Plumage doing some choreography.
We are also blessed to have two new young male dancers join
us to help with some of the pas de deux work. They are Logan Baker from Murdo
and Israel Kanz here from Pierre. Israel danced in our first performance of
Sleeping Beauty in 2005.
The physical therapy workshop in January was excellent and
benefited everyone but especially those with recurring injuries or recovering
from injuries. I would highly recommend Ruth Scott for anyone that is not
getting results from treatment they now receive. Her clinic is Great Plains Therapy, Beresford SD (now also in Sioux Falls )
In February Ms. Sunny, Josh and Sarah Easter and Emily
Plumage traveled to Sioux Falls for coaching for their next round of Cecchetti
exams. Sarah Easter, Emily Plumage, and Ms. Sunny will be returning March 29
for examinations.
We are planning to attend the Cecchetti Sumer Ballet Intensive June 24th-27th in Sioux Falls at Dance Gallery. Any students interested in
attending should see Ms. Sunny for a brochure. There will be alternative
classes offered in jazz, modern, hip hop, lyrical, pilates and yoga. There is
an optional Aladdin musical theater session for younger students 2nd grade
through 5th grade. Older students may get to learn choreography from Grease.

Happy New Year!
Kudos to the dancers and parents for a successful December 19th performance of For Unto Us A Child. We braved a very snowy night that kept our audience at home but we danced as if we had a full house. Viewers were moved to tears by the beauty of the dances and supportive scriptures attesting to the birth of our Lord and King, Jesus Christ. This show although in more of a recital format still shared the Greatest Story Ever Told.
We will be off and running in January with preparations and planning for the June performance of Lion King: Lion of Judah. Our plan is to have this performance point to the return of Jesus.
Watch for posting of additional costume charges for the June show. Fees will need to be paid by the end of January so costume orders can be sent by February 1st.
