Video - Breaking in Pointe Shoes (not for new pointe students)
Do not start hammering, ripping, or wetting your shoes. This will ruin your very expensive shoes. Speak to Ms. Sarah before working on your pointe shoes. When getting your very first pair of shoes, they will be prepared in class. Do not create bad habits by trying to work on your own. Pre-pointe and beginning pointe will have homework exercises.
Dance & Health It is important to find a good performance therapist or rehabilitation specialist, one who understands dancers- their bodies, their needs, and their mindset. Find someone who knows that dance is not the problem, but that a lack of education is. Allow that practitioner to educate you on how to keep your body performing pain-free. You have the right to more than just a passive therapy, adjustment, or massage, but to be taught how to integrate this correction into your movement.
