Happy New Year 2022!

Your dance teachers have had a busy fall, especially November and December.
October 29-31, Mr Josh, Ms Sarah, Ms Sunny, and students Becca, Rae, Walter, Hannah, and former student Jessica, attended the Dance Network of South Dakota Fall Intensive. Classes were taught in tap, modern, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, and ballet. Teachers were Bill Evans, Andrea Vazquez, Jeremy Edmonton, and Dr. Debra Knapp. This workshop was held at Barefoot Dance Studio in Rapid City.

November 13 & 14, Mr Josh, Ms Sarah, Ms Sunny and Becca attended the Northern Plains Cecchetti Council Fall Dance Workshop in Aberdeen. Becca passed her Grade VI/Professional Intermediate Cecchetti exam with Examiner Sandra Glenn. The Aberdeen workshop also had good classes in tap, hip hop and contemporary, in addition to ballet, and were enjoyed by all who took them.

Thé Joy of Christmas showcase was well attended. Some dancers had a short rehearsal time but the students did well.

Advanced ballet student, Becca Brusven, will be traveling to compete in the 2022 San Francisco Regional YAGP (Youth American Grand Prix) in February. The event will be held at the San Mateo Performing Arts Center and classes will be held at the San Francisco Ballet.

Our spring performances of The Deliverer will be held at Riggs Theatre on March 19, 2022.

Fall Edition 2021 119 N Deadwood St Ft Pierre Artistic Director, Sunny Hannum

Goodbye Summer! Hello Fall!

Who would have thought we'd be glad to see fall arrive? It is good to see the end of the extreme heat and the cooler fall temperatures and finally some rain.

Registrations have slowly trickled in as parents are reluctant to return from a very active summer making up for last summer's restrictions. Most classes still have room for more students.

Our summer dance camps didn't get enough registrations to be held as parents and students flocked to outdoor activities. However, four students and your three teachers did ballet classes the last two weeks of July to get in shape for an August 2-5 summer intensive at Dance Gallery of SD in Sioux Falls. Kourtney Hughes, Rae McVey, Walter McVey, and Becca Brusven attended the Dance Gallery workshop along with Ms. Sarah, Mr. Josh, and Ms. Sunny. We had a fun week of classes, did a lot of fine dining, and did some shopping.

Becca Brusven attended the South Dakota Ballet's summer intensive in Sioux Falls for two weeks in June and performed in the student choreography during the SD Ballet's performance of "Only Human."  “Only Human” featured artists from American Ballet Theatre, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Hubbard Street, Los Angeles Ballet, and more. Mr. Josh, Ms. Sarah, and Ms. Sunny traveled to Sioux Falls to see Becca perform.

The entire month of August, several students have attended a technique class and begun learning choreography for "Deliver Us," one of the slave dances from "The Deliverer: Prince of Egypt," for our spring 2022 show.

Our May 15 performance of Through the Wardrobe (Narnia) turned out very well in spite of covid issues for the Easter family that kept Mr. Josh and Ms. Sarah homebound for most of April. Ms. Sunny continued rehearsing run-throughs until they were able to return. Audiences loved the atmosphere of the smaller theater at the Grand Opera House/Pierre Players Theater.

Fall dance workshops we plan on attending are the Dance Network of South Dakota's annual convention and the CCA Northern Plains Liason workshop.

Our spring performance of "The Deliverer" will be at Riggs Theatre on March 19, 2022.

We Encourage All Our Students to Prepare for Cecchetti Examinations

This is such an excellent way for students to become technically proficient and thoroughly learn the terminology of ballet. There is something about preparing for an exam that makes students work harder and helps them develop as dancers. And bonus, you get a certificate as a memory of all the hard work, study, and effort.

If you or your student(s) are interested in getting started with Cecchetti student examinations let us know.
⇒ Ballet III and up are eligible to start working on Grade 1. Examinations take a lot of preparation, study, and commitment. (Normally 1-2 years is spent studying per grade. More as you progress through the grades.)  Examinations - read more about what to expect here

Our studio is affiliated with the Cecchetti Council of America. We added the Cecchetti syllabus to our classes in 2013. All teachers are professionally examined by the CCA to hold certificates in the Cecchetti Method grades.

Hosanna Dance instructors attend all the Cecchetti intensives and workshops at Dance Gallery in Sioux Falls and attend the International Cecchetti Teacher's Summit at least every other year.

Show Dates Update

We have dates now for our show after many changes due to availability and covid.

The week of May 10th there will be Monday & Tuesday classes at the studio as usual. Please save May 12, 13, and 15 for run-through, dress rehearsal and performances at the Pierre Opera House. Schedule to come.

There will be some other rehearsals for multiple classes together scheduled for April. We are trying to limit the crowding in the studio so we won't be doing our usual run-throughs with everyone there at the same time.
